I just had a friend send me a message- She is on the American Chemical Society and is the Public Relations Chair person of the Detroit Section of the ACS which covers many suburbs.She is in Washington D.C right now with the National Chemical Society. Her job is to try to educate the public about chemicals and what's harmful to people! She will be bringing me home lots of info. That I will post here. Xenoestrogens in Your Personal Care Products

Zenoestrogens are endocrine disrupters.  They are chemicals that mimic estrogen in your body and interfere with the normal functioning of your hormones.
Endocrine disrupters are found in a great many personal care products on the market, including shampoos, conditioners and cosmetics as well as baby products.

Estrogen mimicking chemicals have been implicated in early puberty in girls, development of breast cancer, some association with vaginal and cervical cancer, and endometriosis.  In males, they have been associated with reproductive disorders, including decreased sperm count, increase in testicular cancer, hypospadias and cryptorchidism, and possibly benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer.
The xenoestrogens most commonly found in personal care products are the parabens:
                         *butylparaben
                         *ethylparaben
                         *methylparaben
                         *proplyparaben
Other xenoestrogens, used mostly in facial cosmetics and lipsticks include:
                          *octyl-methoxycinnamate
                          *octyl-dimethyl-PABA
                          *benzophenone-3
                          *homosalate
                          *4-methyl-benzylidene camphor (4-MBC)
These five chamical not only demonstrated strong estrogenic effects, but also caused increased growth of cancer cells in a swiss study.

Most companies using parabens, maintain that they are nontoxic and safe.  But while they may be relatively nontoxic, according to Peter Eckhart, M>D>, "The new theory that has been espoused since 1991 is that these zenoestrogens are causing many female problems such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibrocystic breast disease, premenstrual syndrome, and most recently menstrual cramps".
The chemicals listed above are only a partial list of endocrine disrupters.

SOME INGREDIENTS TO WATCH OUT FOR:
Diethanolamine (DEA) - is found in over six hundred home and personal care products such as soaps, lotions, cosmetics, bubble baths and laundry and dishwashing detergents.  In 1997, The U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services National Toxicity Program found that when DEA was applied to the skin of rats, it resulted in clear evidence of carcinogenic (cancerous) activity.1
Propylene glycol - is a subtstance used as a powerful solvent in antifreeze solutions and hydraulic fluids.  Ironically enough, it is also found in childhood vaccinations, cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, and even processed foods.  Like DEA, propylene glycol has been shown in studies to be absorbed through the skin and cause many problems, such as kidsney damage, liver abnormalities, skin cell growth inhibition, damaged cell membranes, rashes, respiratory damage, immune system deficiency, and central nervous system depression.13
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) - Is perhaps the most common of the three chemical and by no means any less toxic.  SLS is used as a surfactant to break down the surface tension of water.  This degreaser is used in practically every soap, shampoo, and toothpaste on the market today.  SLS has been used in studies to induce mutation in bacteria and to irritate skin.  It has also been show to enter the heart, liver, lungs, and brain from skin contact and has been proven to maintain residual levels once inside these organs.14

THE SOLUTION:  Use natural products that do not contain these chemicals. (100% pure products)
